WORLD : Kiev forces sustained on April 17 heavy human and material losses as a result of a fresh wave of strikes which were attributed to the Russian military.
The heaviest strike was in the center of the Chernihiv region, where three tactical ballistic missiles hit the Profspilkovyy Hotel on Shevchenko Street.
Ukrainian media attempted to portray the pinpoint strike as a Russian attack on civilian infrastructure. However, it quickly became clear that the hotel was being used by Kiev forces. Footage from the scene showed military beds among the ruins of the hotel as well as the evacuation of wounded individuals in uniform.
According to preliminary information, the hotel was housing personnel from Ukraine’s 5th Separate Communications Regiment. There were also reports about the presence of foreign mercenaries.
The exact number of enemy casualties is not yet confirmed. Citing Ukrainian officials, Reuters reported that at least 16 people were killed and more than 60 others were wounded.
Other alleged Russian strikes targeted the Odessa region. Governor Oleh Kiper said that “infrastructure” was struck, without elaborating. Tactical ballistic missiles were reportedly also used in the attack on the region, though this is yet to be confirmed.
There were also reports of Russian strikes on the Kryvyi Rih region. Ukrainian media reported large blasts there, but didn’t provide any details.
In its daily briefing, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that the Operational-Tactical Aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have engaged ammunition depots of the Donetsk Operational-Tactical Group, the 125th Territorial Defence Brigade of Kiev forces and the terrorist units of the so-called Russian Volunteer Corps, as well as manpower and military hardware in 132 areas in Ukraine.
The ministry also provided details on recent Russian operations along the front in the special military operation zone in Ukraine.
In Kupyansk direction, the Zapad Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and inflicted heavy losses on Ukraine’s 57th motorized infantry, 14th, 54th mechanized and 77th aeromobile brigades near Sinkovka, Zagoruykovka and Stelmakhovka, according to the ministry.

According to the ministry, Ukrainian losses in this direction amounted to 80 troops, one tank, two motor vehicles, one Akatsiya 152 mm self-propelled howitzer and one D-30 122 mm towed howitzer.
