USA: The Florida Supreme Court granted Gov. Ron DeSantis’ request for a statewide grand jury to investigate human smuggling from the southern border under the Biden Administration.
The DeSantis administration filed a petition June 17th with the Florida Supreme Court requesting a statewide grand jury.
“People coming illegally, a lot of them are trying to get here in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said then. “This is something that absolutely affects us. The drugs that are coming in affect us.”
The grand jury will investigate parents and guardians of “unaccompanied alien children” who have conspired with transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) to smuggle and endanger their children.
It will also investigate organizations who are directly or indirectly working with TCOs to traffic illegal children into the country.
The order includes a host of other offenses it would investigate including crimes involving narcotics, bribery, computer-related crimes, fraud, and money laundering.
The Supreme Court order said a statewide grand jury will be promptly impaneled for twelve months to investigate.
